OPI Venice Collection Review & Swatches

Sparkling canals, crisscrossed by bridges and a maze of alleys and hidden piazzas. I would love to visit Venice, especially during the Venice Carnival season which is renowned for its extravagant balls with opulent costumes and bejewelled masks. That would be the life!

Unfortunately however my budget doesn't stretch to such luxurious holidays currently so I'll have to get my dose of Venice in a different form! That's where OPI's latest luxurious nail polish collection, the Venice Collection comes in!

OPI Venice Collection

The OPI Venice Collection was released to coincide with the European Fall/Winter 2015. This bold and elegant collection consists of 12 new shades which will be added to the permanent OPI colour family.

The collection includes romantic reds, striking corals, dreamy pastels, elegant nudes, dramatic darks and a luxurious shimmery copper metallic. Even though all these shades are reportedly designed for fall and winter, some of the pastels, nudes, metallics and corals would also be perfect for our Australian Spring & Summer. Yay!

Although I don't have the full 12 colours to show you I was lucky to receive the Little Bambinos Mini 4-Pack including the shades A Great Opera-Tunity, Worth a Pretty Penne, Amore at the Grand Canal and My Gondola or Yours?

A Great Opera-tunity
"Aria" ready to wear this gorgeous melon? This is a pretty nude, dusty peachy shade that applies easily and is opaque and streak free with two coats.

Worth a Pretty Penne
Flaunt your fashion "cents" in this shimmery copper. This is my favourite shade in the OPI Venice collection. It's a luxurious looking, slightly rose-tinted, coppery metallic. Once again it is a fabulous formula requiring only two coats.

Amore at the Grand Canal
Let the romance flow in this ravishing red. OPI excels at creating perfect reds and this one is no exception. It's a very flattering classic blue-red shade.

My Gondola or Yours?
Let's cruise the canals in this luscious black. This is a smoky black with a gorgeous but very, very subtle shimmer in it. The shimmer is more noticeable in sunlight and is hard to see indoors. This shade requires three coats to achieve a non streaky opaque colour.

Which of these above four shades is your favourite?

  1. If I quit buying beauty products, maybe I could afford a trip to Venice! :D
I love this brand. I used to buy one a week when I would go for a walk past my local beauty salon. Not sure if you know but TVSN often have great OPI sales and you can grab a few bottles for a fraction of their price. (Just saying, so that you never make it to Venice either but have great looking nails instead!)

    1. Thanks for the TVSN tip. Maybe saving on beauty products by buying them on sale will enable me to save for a Venice trip after all!

    1. Thanks DF! The mask is actually a cheapie from a local party shop which I bought for my daughter's Year 6 dance which had a masquerade theme.

  3. I swear everyone loves Worth A Pretty Penne! I haven't seen a bad comment about it yet. I know I fell in love with it at first sight.

I bought 3 of the shades from this collection (I Cannoli Wear OPI, Gelato On My Mind & of course, Worth A Pretty Penne), but I haven't tried them out yet because I'm on a no-opening-newbies-until-oldies-are-finished thingymabob for the entire year. There were/are also 3 limited edition shades in this collection, but for some reason they're only being sold in salons here not retail. Major boo OPI, MAJOR BOO! (I did enquire about getting 2 of the shades, but the supplier took forever to get back to me, couldn't give me details about where they were being sold here because they had only just been sent to salons at the time, then told me I could send their company the $ in order to get them. Nope, I want to see the bottles with my own eyes thanks very much.)

I'm going to make you a bit envious Ingrid...I have been to Venice, albeit briefly on a tour...and yes, I had a gondola ride. It's a must!

    1. I'm not surprised everyone loves the rose gold shimmery Worth A Pretty Penne shade!

I have to say I'm mega impressed with your willpower not to open any newbie products until you finish an oldie! Nail polishes take a looooong time to finish! I do love the look of Gelato On My Mind.

And yes, I am totally green with envy about your Venice experience especially the gondola ride at that! One day I'll get there!

    1. It's good value buying the Bambinos 4 pack of colours I have pictured. For just over the cost of one full sized OPI nail polish you get these four shades in mini bottles. Something to consider.

  9. I found the black just a little too not opaque for me.

    1. The black was the only one that I found required more than two coats to achieve opacity. As described above I found it to be a smokey black as opposed to a jet black.

  19. I love OPI - they are my favorite brand of nail polish. I love the Worth a Pretty Penne one. I like unusual shades and I don't see many people wearing a copper color. I think I did try the black and I loved it. It reminded me more of black leather than just a flat black. Very pretty.
