Glamour Affair Sydney 2015 Blogger Event

The recent Glamour Affair event in Sydney was absolutely amazing!

What is Glamour Affair? I hear you ask! Glamour Affair was founded by Erin from 3B's blog (Baby, Beauty & Beyond) and writer/youtuber Melissa from Melissa Bubbles: Beauty, Fashion & Life.

Glamour Affair Founders Erin & Melissa

Glamour Affair organises blogger exclusive events that bring brands and PRs together in a casual environment perfect for socialising, and Glamour Affair definitely achieved these aims at their recent Sydney event.

The event was held at Beachside Dojo upstairs in Daniel San restaurant at Sydney's iconic Manly Beach. You couldn't ask for a more picturesque location.

After some initial socialising with the 30 bloggers/vloggers present we were ushered to tables laden with goodie bags to listen to the brand presentations.

Have you ever seen more goodie bags than this in one location!!!!! We all walked away with 5 goodie bags each from the many generous brand sponsors! Warning: Loads of new product reviews coming up over the next few months!

Glamour Affair Goodie Bags

Here's a photo of the combined contents of all the goodie bags I received! It was quite hard fitting it all into the one photo!
I think I will be reviewing products from this photo for months! So much trialing of products and reviewing to be done!!! Love it!

Some extra lucky bloggers/vloggers won even more goodies as prizes!

Extra prizes!

The first presentation was by celebrity makeup artist Shella Martin. Shella emphasised the importance of skincare, especially exfoliation and moisturising, for flawless makeup application. She demonstrated how Nuxe, Bioderma & Uriage derma-skincare products are the perfect complement to her makeup kit. Keep an eye out on my blog over the coming weeks for a more detailed post regarding some of these products!

Sammy from Boe Beauty & Boe Professional, together with gorgeous Jordy Cannon, informed us about Boe Beauty and Boe Professional. Boe Beauty is an affordable budget cosmetics brand exclusive to Big W. They do not test on animals but maintain affordable pricing of $2 an item! Boe have also recently released their Boe Professional range of products. The products in this Professional range start from $4.95 upwards. A detailed review of Boe products to follow! Spoiler alert: I can't believe how good these products are for such a cheap price!!!!

Unfortunately my photo of Sammy and Jordy chopped their heads off! How did I do that??? So I have used a photo taken by Gery from Margarita Lipstick Beauty and Lifestyle Blog. Gery has also written a review of this event. You can check it out here.

Gine & Aisling, the lovely ladies from Lush, next gave us the most deliciously scented demonstration of how to make mermaid water! They then helped relax us all by providing us with Lush massage bars and having us pair up to give the person next to us a totally relaxing and blissfully scented arm massage.

We also got to sample the Lush Popcorn Lip Scrub and Lush R & B Hair Moisturiser. Once again, keep an eye on my blog over the next couple of weeks for a more detailed review of these Lush products plus a couple of other Lush products we received in our Glamour Affair goodie bags!

Lush Demonstration
Lisa & Chantalle from cruelty free Australian brand Rosehip PLUS showcased their organic product range for us, including the new, convenient Rosehip Oil Skin Boost Roll-On. What a brilliant idea! This makes rose hip oil so easy and mess-free to apply when out and about! A review of these goodies will also be coming in the next few weeks!

Rosehip PLUS Products.

Yong Li then introduced the premium Enbacci skin care brand and products to us, wearing an eye-catching Louis Vuitton dress. Unfortunately I was too busy admiring her outfit and listening to her spiel to take a photo!

In conclusion, as you can see from the above, the Glamour Affair Sydney event was absolutely amazing! I want to say a massive thank you to Melissa and Erin from Glamour Affair for all the hard work they put into making this event the success it was and for inviting me along to attend!

To all the bloggers and vloggers pictured below who attended this event, I loved meeting you! You were all so gorgeous and lovely and welcoming. I wish I could have chatted to more of you but hopefully we will bump into each other sooner rather than later at another event! Fingers crossed!

  • A Bella Adventure's post about the Priceline Skincare Goodie Bag was another favourite! These bags are brilliant but unfortunately they are way too popular! By the time I got to Priceline they were all sold out :(

Marie Claire The Parcel - Winter Edit - Beauty Subscription Box Review

It's freezing outside, I'm wearing my warm woolly jumpers and boots, and the heater is on! Yes, winter has arrived in Australia again! One of the main reasons I look forward to a change of season is the arrival of my Marie Claire The Parcel beauty subscription box

Marie Claire's The Parcel is a seasonal beauty subscription box, which if you get a seasonal subscription, costs $25 per box delivered to your doorstep on a quarterly basis. You can also buy a one-off box for $29.95.

My Marie Claire The Parcel - Winter Edit box arrived earlier this week. The box contains Marie Claire beauty editors' picks of the best buys to get us through the cooler winter weather.

Marie Claire The Parcel - Winter Edit

Marie Claire The Parcel - Winter Edit Contents

Listed below are the products I received in the Marie Claire The Parcel Winter Edit. I have quoted the product information that The Parcel provides on its information card in italic print and I've followed this with my comments in normal print.

O.P.I Nail Lacquer
Full Size: 15 ml Value: $19.95

O.P.I A Grape Affair
"Inject a bit of fun into your winter wardrobe with a slick of new polish. We've chosen a great range of shades for you from O.P.I's 50 Shades of Grey, Coca-Cola or Classic collections. Tip: maintain a chic mani by keeping nails short and square with a slick of varnish, and prolong your polish with a topcoat by topping up every second day."

I was so excited to receive the stunning purple 'A Grape Affair' shade of O.P.I nail polish from the Coca-Cola collection. I had just been looking for a rich deep dark purple to go with my winter wardrobe outfits and here it was home delivered to me in The Parcel! Win!

L'Oreal Paris Volume Million Lashes So Couture
Full Size: 9 ml. Value: $27.95

L'Oreal Paris Volume million Lashes So Couture Mascara
"Bat a fuller flutter with Volume Million Lashes So Couture, the latest addition to L'Oreal Paris' Volume Million Lashes franchise. Delivering clean, clump-free volume and the finest silky formula, the precise brush has 408 mini bristles to capture and extend each individual lash. Position the wand at the roots and zigzag to the tips, to amp-up glamour."

I'm always needing new mascaras and welcome this new addition to my collection. This black glamour mascara will be well used. I'll open it after my current mascaras have past their expiry dates.

Lanolips Lemonaid Lip Aid
Full Size: 12.5g Value: $15.95

Lanolips Lemonaid Lip Aid
"Replenish chapped lips on the go with this rich, whipped lanolin treatment. With more than 70 per cent ultra medical-grade lanolin to soften lips, and organic lemon oil to naturally exfoliate - your pout is left feeling fresh, soft and supple. Stash it in your tote this winter and enjoy its refreshing lemon 'zing' flavour."

Chapped dry lips are such a winter beauty hazard. This Lanolips product is the perfect addition to the winter Marie Claire The Parcel subscription box.

Estee Lauder Revitalizing Supreme Global Anti-Aging Creme
Sample Size: 5 ml. Value: $13.32. (Full sized 30ml: $80)

Estee Lauder Revitalizing Supreme Global Anti-Aging Creme
"With the cooler weather here and heating turned up high, it's time to look at shaking up your skincare routine. This super-luxe cream from Estee Lauder works to soften skin, smooth lines and boost luminosity - all while working on your specific anti-aging concerns. Use day and night after cleansing."

This product sounds as if it were made to order for my 40+ year old skin this winter! I loved the luxurious and effective Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Cream in the Summer Edit Marie Claire The Parcel subscription box so I am sure I will love this product also. I love sampling luxurious brand products as I am hesitant to buy them at such high prices without trying them first.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Mask For Intense Hydration
3 Masks. Value: $15. (Pack of 5 Masks: $25)

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Mask For Intense Hydration
"Take some time out to treat your skin with a hydrating mask."

I was very happy to see these masks included in this subscription box. I find winter weather, and being indoors in heating very dehydrating on my skin. Plus being 40+ years old, my skin is drier than it used to be anyway winter or not! I find masks relaxing to use and I'm sure I will enjoy using these hydrating masks.

Neutrogena Make-up Remover Cleansing Towelettes
Travel Size: 7 towelettes. Value: $3.99.

Neutrogena Make-up remover Cleansing Towelettes
"We know you love the wipes as much as we do, so we've included them again to help you prep the skin before your mask."

I was a bit disappointed to have exactly the same product in two of The Parcel subscription boxes in a row. I would have preferred to have tried a new and different product but having said that, travel size packs of makeup remover wipes are always useful to have in my handbag. The fact that these wipes easily remove waterproof mascara without stinging my sensitive eyes is an added bonus. I did like them when I tried them from the last box.

John Frieda Beach Blonde Cool Dip Purifying Shampoo, Smooth Seas Detangling Conditioner and Ocean Waves Sea-Salt Spray
Sample Size: shampoo 50 ml, conditioner 50ml, sea salt spray 30ml. (Full sized: $16.99 each).

John Frieda Beach Blonde Cool Dip Purifying Shampoo, Smooth Seas Detangling Conditioner
and Ocean Waves Sea-Salt Spray.
"Not just for blondes or summer, anyone can get gorgeous beachy waves all year thanks to this three-step regimen. We love the cult Sea-Salt Spray - back due to popular demand - with its incredible hair-tousling formula."

At first I thought this was an odd choice for the winter edit box and that it would be better suited to the summer edit box but then I realised that yes, I do like styling my hair with the tousled beachy wave look just as much in winter as in summer, so the Marie Claire peeps got it right yet again!

Woolworths Select Quick & Easy Nail Polish 30 Removal Wipes
Full sized: 30 wipes. Value: $2

"There are no excuses for chipped nails. Remove old varnish on the go with these easy-to-use wipes. Free from acetone and scented with aloe vera, they're perfect for the gym or handbag."

I'm curious to see how effective these wipes are. I'm hoping they work well as I can see myself finding them useful to keep in my handbag for when I'm out and about.

Woolworths Select Quick & Easy Nail Polish 30 Removal Wipes

In conclusion, once again Marie Claire's The Parcel subscription box has impressed me. The products have been well selected, they are a lovely mix of high end and drug store brands, and the box itself is brilliant value! I'm really happy with the nail polish colour I received and there is nothing in this box that I won't use!

If you are thinking of subscribing to this box but want to see what was included in previous boxes, here are my reviews for the Autumn Edit and the Summer Edit.

Most Popular Links From Monday Makeup Madness #10 Link Up
  • Amy's empties post on Health & Beauty Girl blog. Who doesn't love taking a peek at what products a beauty blogger has been using and loving! I'm really impressed that Amy actually ended up finishing a nail polish! I think my favourite shade of nail polish changes too frequently for me to ever finish one particular bottle of nail polish!
  • Di's post over at Max The Unicorn blog about getting dirty with Lush's new massage bars was another favourite post on last week's link up.
  • Magda's post about Bourjois Rouge Edition Aqua Laque lipsticks on Beauty Bucket List proved to be another favourite. After reading Magda's post and viewing her swatches I think a lot of us would consider adding one or more of these glossy lipsticks to our collections.
  • Finally Christina's post about ColourPop Lippie Stixs on Love That Lippie blog also proved a favourite. I especially loved the look of the satin finish Lippie Stixs.

12 Easy Steps To Host A Successful Clothing Swap Party

12 Easy Steps To Host A Successful Clothing Swap Party

Is your wardrobe overflowing with clothes yet you still have nothing to wear?

If you answered "yes" to the above question then a clothing swap party might be a great solution for you.

A clothing swap party gives you the opportunity to declutter your wardrobe of clothes that are still in good condition but you no longer wear whilst adding new clothes that you love.

I've been attending by best friend, Lisa's amazing clothing swap parties for the past 5 years now! How does she organise and host these amazing clothing swap parties? Following are her 12 easy steps for hosting a successful clothing swap party.

1. Set a date for the party approximately 3-4 weeks in advance to increase the likelihood that your invitees will be able to attend and don't have anything else already booked in on that night.

2. Invite 10-15 friends with similar clothing tastes. A smaller number also works if all invitees are roughly the same size.

If your friends are all varying sizes ensure you invite at least three or more friends in each size group to ensure there is suitable clothing for swapping for everyone.

3. Allow each friend to bring a plus 1 to join in the swapping fun. Not only will you get to meet new people but this will also result in a larger pool of clothes to swap. Depending on the size of your venue the more the merrier with clothing swap parties.

4. On the invite stipulate all swapping clothes must be in good wearable condition and washed. No ripped, torn, holey or stained clothing allowed.

5. Also stipulate on the invite if you will be swapping other items such as shoes, accessories, unopened beauty items, children's clothing, toys or books.

6. Agree beforehand what will happen with the leftover clothes at the end of the night. At Lisa's clothing parties the leftovers are donated to charities such as Lifeline and The Salvation Army.

7. Organise the clothing swap party space before everyone arrives with well labelled areas, whether these are tables, lounges, racks etc, for each different clothing size and style i.e. size 12 dresses, size 12 tops, size 12 bottoms, and so on for each size.

8. Organise a separate space for accessories, bags, belts, jewelry, shoes. The clothing party I regularly attend also includes children's clothing and books, although we don't have children actually attending on the night.

9. Wait for everyone to arrive before the actual swapping begins. Invite people for 7pm, then let everyone sort out their clothing into the designated labelled areas, chat and socialise for the first 30-45 minutes before the swapping begins.

10. Determine a system as to how the swapping will work and remind everyone of it before the swapping starts. Different parties that I have attended have had different rules. At Lisa's parties, as we are all friends, the rules are more relaxed as opposed to larger clothing swap parties run by councils with a bunch of strangers.

At Lisa's party everyone starts looking at what they might want at the same time. People can try on a couple of things at a time before returning unwanted items to the labelled clothing areas and taking some more items to try on. Ultimately everyone is welcome to claim as many items as they want regardless of how many they brought along with them.

Clothes can only be taken from the designated labelled areas, not other people's personal piles. Participants may only claim items for themselves or their children, not for friends who are not attending, unless that item is left over at the end of the night.

11. Make sure you have at least one full length mirror, or preferably more.

12. Ask everyone to bring a plate of food or a bottle of champagne to the clothing swap party to make a party of the night.

Do you attend clothing swap parties? Do you have any additional tips?

Monday Makeup Madness #9 Most Popular Posts
  • Kats Colourings' Sleek Plummy Pinks EOTD was a definite favourite post. Plummy pink with teal is such a perfect colour combination for winter. I can't wait to see which colour combination Kat uses for her next EOTD!
  • It also seems like I'm not the only one that loves having a sticky beak at the products other beauty bloggers have been using and loving! Lipsticks and Coffee's April and May Empties post was another favourite of everyone's.
  • Rachel Beauty Style's review of L'Oreal True Match Foundation was also a popular post.
  • Finally we all seem to love seeing swatches and reading palette reviews, and Sweetaholic Beauty's Australis Bronzeyed Girl Eyeshadow Palette review was no exception to this. I find swatches of palettes so helpful when I'm considering which one to purchase next.

Introducing Your Teenager to Skin Cleansing & Exfoliation

As I opened the mystery parcel I could feel my daughter's eyes on me watching to see what goodies I was about to pull out and reveal! When she spotted the pink Clearasil Daily Clear Superfruits Refreshing Wash & Scrub she gave a little squeal declaring one of her best friends had just started using these products and could she pleeeeeease use them as well!

I was happy that my daughter was interested in cleansing her face and these products are definitely suitable for her 15 year old skin! Clearasil is such a trusted skin care brand, perfect for the changing needs of teenage skin.

So after a quick bit of negotiation, because I'm a mum after all, and I needed something to bribe cajole my daughter into cleaning her room, I agreed to let her have these products after I had photographed them and tried them first myself for the blog AND providing she cleaned her room TODAY!

So please excuse the strawberries in the photos below. I am aware that these Clearsil products contain raspberry and cranberry extracts and not strawberry extracts, but strawberries were the closest superfruit I could find in our fridge that day!

Clearasil Superfruits Refreshing Wash & Scrub

Clearasil Daily Clear Superfruits Refreshing Wash ($10.99)

Clearasil Superfruits Refreshing Wash

Clearasil Daily Clear Superfruits Refreshing Wash comes in a clear 150ml pump action bottle. It has a sweet, berry scent that my daughter loves!

As mentioned above it contains raspberry and cranberry extracts and is designed to be gentle enough to be used on your skin daily, keeping it hydrated and looking radiant. It also contains one percent salicylic acid.

One pump of this wash is enough to use on your face. I found it lathered up well with water. It felt gentle on my skin, cleaning it thoroughly but not stripping it of its natural oils.

My daughter has been using this facial cleanser daily for over a fortnight now and loves it. She says her skin is clearer now than it used to be. Her two brothers have started asking questions about this wash also and I suspect I will be buying it on a regular basis for all three of them to use. I'm happy about this as I want them all to have good skin care regimes right from the start.

Clearasil Daily Clear Superfruits Refreshing Scrub ($10.99)

Clearasil Superfruits Refreshing Scrub

Clearasil Daily Clear Superfruits Refreshing Scrub comes in a 150ml flip top tube. Like the wash it has a fresh, sweet, berry scent that my daughter totally loves!

Once again it contains raspberry & cranberry extracts, known for their antioxidant properties, and also Vitamin B3 to protect the skin's barrier. It also contains one percent salicylic acid to fight existing blemishes and prevent future breakouts.

This superfruits cleansing scrub is pale pink in colour and thick in consistency. It is thus easy to dispense into your hands and massage onto your face. Perfect for first time skincare scrub users such as my daughter.

The exfoliating granules are a darker pink colour and quite small, resulting in a gentle exfoliation of the skin and unblocking of pores for a smoother complexion.

After use my skin felt super clean but not stripped of its natural oils at all.

Although the tube recommends using this scrub everyday, both in the morning and evening, to keep your skin clear I've encouraged my daughter to start off using this scrub twice a week initially. We have built it into her cleansing routine in the shower each time after she washes her hair twice a week. For now this routine and frequency combined with the daily use of the Clearasil Daily Clear Superfruits Refreshing Wash seems to be working well for her teenage skin.

If my daughter's skin condition changes I will consult the Clearasil skin care guide on their website to determine what the best Clearasil washes, scrubs and other products are for her skin.

At what age have you or would you introduce your daughter to a skin care regime? What skin care products would you recommend to a teenager?
