NYX Cosmetics New Products Showcase (Part 2)

One of the new products that NYX Cosmetics showcased to us at the recent beautyheaven Beauty Degustation event was their new BB creamBy my definitions I found it to be almost more a foundation than a BB cream as it gave more coverage than most other BB creams I've tried. But who cares what it's defined as, I absolutely love it! Miraculously this BB cream covers my skin's redness and evens out my skin tone making my skin look more radiant and smoother, and thus more youthful! Perfect for my aging 40+ year old skin!

I found this BB cream easy to apply and blend, lightweight, oil free and with good pigmentation. It results in natural looking, smooth skin. I find there is no need to apply foundation over the top of it, making it perfect for use on my work days when I start work at 7am and want a quick and easy makeup routine before I leave home. I just apply the BB cream, set it with powder and then apply my blush. Using this method I've found the BB cream to last well throughout my entire work day. My only additional wish is that this BB cream also contained SPF.

NYX Cosmetics' BB cream comes in three different shades: nude, natural and golden. The shade I was gifted at the beautyheaven Beauty Degustation was Golden which luckily is the perfect shade for me. This BB cream is priced at $18.95 and is available at Target's online site here (currently on sale for $13.26) and my understanding is that it will also be on Target stores' shelves in November.

Another new NYX product I'm enjoying trialling is the Sunkissed Radiant Finishing Powder. It contains 6 different shades within the one product including bronze, brown, rose, peach, yellow and champagne toned powders.

The powders all contain a hint of shimmer but this is not overly glittery. It gave my skin a soft subtle healthy glow or you could call it a "sunkissed radiant" look, making this an aptly named product!

I found this finishing powder easy to apply, lightweight and silky smooth. I applied it after my makeup and found it helped to set my makeup. I like how I can vary the colours I swirl my brush over to vary the shade I apply to my skin depending on whether I want a more highlighting or bronzing look.

Like all NYX Cosmetics, Sunkissed Radiant Finishing Powder is good value, priced at $16.95, but is currently even better value, being on sale for $11.85 at Target Online. I love bargains! Especially good quality makeup bargains!

What was your last makeup bargain buy?

The Parcel - Spring Edit - New Marie Claire Beauty Subscription Box

Marie Claire's The Parcel is an all new sampling service whereby the Marie Claire beauty team choose and collate the best and latest of beauty and cosmetics products for inclusion into The Parcel. There are four seasonal subscription parcels a year: spring, summer, autumn and winter.

I received the first Parcel - The Spring Edit - this month. It was advertised to be valued at over $100 for an outlay of $25. It was advertised to include must-have new-season buys from Lancôme, O.P.I, Revlon, L’Oréal Paris, Benefit Cosmetics and more. It was advertised to include both deluxe sized samples and full sized products.

With such enticing advertising I didn't have to think too hard before ordering this initial box to assess if it lived up to its advertising hype. I thought I'd then be in a better position to decide whether or not to commit to an ongoing quarterly subscription of The Parcel.

Did The Parcel live up to its advertising? Yes!

What did The Parcel, Spring Edit, end up containing?

Lancome Visionnaire Advanced Skin Corrector
Deluxe Sample Size 7 ml (30ml: $97)
This serum is reportedly designed to re-texturize the look of skin, refine & correct the appearance of wrinkles, pores & uneven skin texture, to make skin look visibly more beautiful, immediately & over time.

This is the product that I am most looking forward to trialling to see if it lives up to its advertising. It sounds like a perfect product for my 40+ year old skin!

Revlon ColourStay Moisture Stain Full Size ($25.95)
I received the shade New York Scene, a classy, vintage-like, deep red colour (see above photo).

The Revlon Moisture Stain isn't quite a lipstick nor a gloss. It promises the shine of a gloss, the moisture of a balm, the long wear of a stain & the opaque coverage of a lipstick.

It does provide good pigmentation. The quite wide doe foot applicator makes applying this moisture stain very easy. The colour lasted about 3 hours on my lips before I had to reapply.

Benefit They're Real! Push Up Liner Deluxe Sample Size (Full Size: $35)

Benefit They're Real! Mascara Deluxe Sample Size (Full Size: $38)
I'm happy to finally be able to try this cult mascara (I must be the last person in Sydney to do so) and also the recently released push up liner.

L'Oreal Paris Elnett Satin Purse-Size Hairspray ($4.95)

This is a convenient sized hairspray for popping in your handbag. I love how this hairspray doesn't feel crunchy or sticky in your hair & how it brushes out easily. Just what I want in a hairspray! It took a couple of dud hairsprays before I found this fabulous product.

OPI Nail Lacquer Full Size ($19.95)
I was a bit disappointed that the OPI nail lacquer I received was not from the Gwen Stefani Collection as advertised as I've been coveting several of those shades & have been waiting in anticipation to see which one I would receive. Instead I received Next Stop ...The Bikini Zone from the OPI Spring 2014 Brazil Collection.

After my initial disappointment I was pleased with this shade. It's a pretty, sparkley pinky purple polish which I no doubt will enjoy wearing during the upcoming Christmas & New Year party season.

BONUS:

Pantene Pro-V Daily Moisture Renewal Shampoo & Conditioner
Deluxe Sample Size: 40 ml each (Full Size: 200ml: $4.99 each)
I am probably least excited about these products, not because there is anything wrong with them but because I am currently at the start of a three month trial of a different shampoo & conditioner.

These Pantene samples will however be handy to take away on my next holiday.

Will I be subscribing to The Parcel in the future? Yes!

Overall I was really happy with The Parcel Spring Edit subscription box. I will be ordering the next one. I loved that the products were all good quality ones from well known brands. I also loved that they were all either full sized or deluxe sized samples. It's great that no sachets were included.

Thanks Marie Claire for creating such a fabulous subscription box.I look forward to seeing what the Summer Edit will contain.

NYX Cosmetics New Products Showcase (Part 1)

I was so excited to be invited to my second beautyheaven Beauty Degustation event last week. This beauty degustation showcased the new NYX Cosmetics products about to be released in Australia and included a masterclass makeup lesson from makeup and beauty supremo Dean Nixon. I love learning tips and tricks from the experts.

NYX Butter Lipstick
My favourite makeup items are lipsticks and lip glosses. I don't mind leaving the house without eye makeup but I always need to have a lippie on. So I was very interested to try the new NYX Butter Lipsticks.

There are 22 colours in the NYX Butter Lipstick range including nudes, pinks, corals, reds and purples, offering full coverage high impact pops of colour for lips. Unfortunately I don't have a full set of these butter lipsticks to photograph and swatch for you, although I will definitely be buying quite a few of them when I see them hit the shelves in Australia. However I did find these photos on the internet of the entire colour range.

The hottest NYX Butter Lipstick colour in the US is Licorice, a stunning deep burgundy colour. Elizabeth was the lucky BH member to have this shade applied to her lips by Dean Nixon in the masterclass. One of Dean's tips was to use a concealer brush instead of a lip brush to apply the lipstick, as it is a longer and flatter brush and gives a more effective, cleaner looking result.

I was lucky to receive the Taffy colour Butter Lipstick, a beautiful pink mauve colour with great pigmentation. It felt hydrating, creamy and comfortable to wear. It was non sticky and had a satin like finish. It actually seemed to melt onto my lips like butter, so calling this range "Butter Lipsticks" is very apt.

I like the NYX Butter Lipsticks' packaging. Although it isn't luxe packaging it is highly practical, cute packaging. The outer tube is colour coded the same shade as the lipstick it contains which makes finding the shade you're after quick and easy. You can also see the lipstick colour through the side of the tube.

NYX Lip Primer
Another of Dean's lip tips included exfoliating your lips regularly with a soft baby toothbrush and applying shea butter. He also recommended applying a lip primer under your lip products to help them apply more evenly and last longer.

I applied this new NYX Cosmetics lip primer under my Butter Lipstick to help the lipstick last longer. I found this lip primer to be smooth and easy to apply.

NYX Colour Mascara
Finally, another exciting new product NYX Cosmetics showed us is the coloured mascara range they're introducing to Australia. This includes blue, brown, and my favourite purple mascara. Believe me when I say I felt way too happy to discover the purple mascara in my goodie bag! It's a fabulous and fun return to the 80s! Yes, I admit, I'm old enough to remember the 80s first hand! But I promise not to bring out the disco ball from storage ........ or maybe I could show my kids a disco move or two!!!!!! Haha!

This purple mascara added a fun yet subtle pop of colour to my lashes, which are naturally quite dark. I needed to put on several coats but was happy with the end result. I'll probably buy the blue mascara as well when I see it in the shops. It will be a bit of fun for summer.

Thank you beautyheaven for inviting me to this Beauty Degustation. I really appreciated it and enjoyed learning more about the new NYX Cosmetics products about to be released in Australia (thanks Dean & Kerrie) and also how to curl my hair (thanks Annalise). Thank you beautyheaven and NYX Cosmetics for the fabulous goodie bags. More reviews to come!

Which colour Butter Lipstick do you best like the look of?

Gold Class Cinema - Luxurious Fun Indulgence or Overpriced Hype?

Gold Class Cinema is advertised as "the ultimate world of luxury cinema" but does it live up to its advertising? My son and I put it to the test last week during the school holidays at Events Macquarie.

Our main reason for choosing Gold Class was because my son recently injured himself and the specialist advised him to avoid sitting upright for too long. We found the Gold Class large recliners to be comfortable, easy to adjust and perfect for his needs.

The Gold Class food and beverage menu was comprehensive. The food appeared to all be finger food so thankfully there was no annoying clinking of cutlery during the movie. The waiters delivered the food at our choice of time and moved around the cinema silently. Due to the layout of the recliners they did not hinder the movie viewing experience at all.

One complaint regarding the food was the tempting aroma of the french fries and onion rings the couple next to us ordered making us wish we had ordered these too!

My son and I both ordered from the Oriental menu. He chose the Peking Duck pancakes with hoi sin sauce and shallots ($19) whilst I selected the steamed chicken and garlic chive dumplings with soy fusion ($13). Both were served in bamboo steamer baskets and seemed overpriced for the amount of food we received (6 pancakes, 6 dumplings). The Peking Duck pancakes were small but absolutely delicious whilst my dumplings were quite average in taste. It was also a bit tricky using the dipping sauce in a recliner, in the dark, without spilling any on myself!

Some of the other menu options included pork sliders, fish 'n' chips, pizzettes (gluten free available), nachos, seafood platter, King Island cheese platter, vegetarian mezze platter, dessert tasting platter and a Lindt chocolate menu.

I thought the Gold Class ticket price of $39.50 each was expensive. There was no discount for children. In addition, for the privilege of booking these tickets online ourselves, selecting our own seats, printing our own tickets and paying online we were charged an extra $3.25 per ticket.

I can't understand how Events can justify charging a booking fee per ticket for basically doing nothing! Why is it more expensive to book online than to buy the tickets using their ticket seller on site? And why did we then need to line up, admittedly in a priority queue, to receive an official ticket when we had already selected a seat and printed a ticket at home? For concert tickets you print the ticket at home and that's it! Surely there could be a similar system at Events?

Would I go Gold Class again?
I did enjoy the comfort of the Gold Class luxury recliners and more intimate cinema experience. It definitely met my son's injury needs which a regular cinema would not have, and overall we did have a fun experience. I didn't appreciate the over priced food, ticket and online booking prices. So my answer would be that yes, I would return to Gold Class for a special date night, but not in a hurry. I wouldn't take my children to Gold Class except in similar extenuating circumstances.

Have you experienced Gold Class cinemas? What did you think? Would you return again?
